I have been appointed to work on the Newquay Aerohub business village. A challenging project to make a real place in an on-the-face-of-it unlikely position, but with the potential to create a place that will be attractive to investors to locate high value aero-industry related employment. A new southern access road to the airport has already been completed and the development framework is hinged around this infrastructure. The airport itself is well equipped and has capacity for the largest aircraft and so is well placed to catalyse growth in Cornwall.
I am really pleased to be working with old colleagues HLM Architects alongside a design team appointed by the client, Cornwall Development Company. My role will be to advise on the masterplan, working with the team to devise a strong urban design base, an appropriate landscape strategy and the right landscape features and design codes that will tie this development to the place and give it a positive identity.
